Wow! It's the new year and we are 22+ weeks into our language training.

It has been tough so far, but I think that I am getting the hang of it, finally. We are now in "Phase Three" of our training, which means that we have a decent grip on the grammar structure and rules, and are now building vocabulary.

Since we are at the Foreign Service Institute, this means learning a lot of vocab regarding politics. Yay. I mean, HOW INTERESTING. Yes, it is important (z z z z).

This week's political topic was regarding immigration reform and problems in the United States.

This is a very important topic for Poles, especially since we don't have a visa waiver program with Poland.

This means that any Pole that wants to visit the U.S., even as a tourist, must apply for a proper visa. It is a difficult process, expensive, and a giant pain in the rear.

You and I, as U.S. citizens, do NOT need a visa to enter Poland as a tourist.

Politics aside, I do think that Poland will be the next to join the program.

They are currently the fastest growing economy in the E.U.

My assignment this weekend was to argue FOR immigration reform and write about it in Polish. I decided to write about the anti-immigration laws and what it has done to farmers in my home state of Georgia. Pro or anti-immigration: these are a few of the facts.

Reforma imigracyjna to trudny problem w Ameryce.

Immigration reform is a difficult problem in America.

Podczas Biały Dom jeszce nie ma decyzji dotyczące reformy systemu imigraczjnego, wiele stanów na południu są “dokręcania śruby” na imigranci.

While the White House has yet to make a decision regarding reform of the immigration system, many states in the South are tightening the screw on immigration.

Rządy stanów już mają inny problem, bo mały napływ imigratów z powodu tych przepisów nowych imigracyjnych.

The governments of states already have a different problem, because of small influx of imigrants due to the new anti-immigration laws.

Według “NPR” rok temu, rolników w stanie Georgia nie mieli dośyć pracowników podczas żniw.

According to NPR a year ago, farmers in the state of Georgia did not have enough workers during harvest time.

Rolny przemysł to największy przemysł w stanie Georgia, zarabia 1.1 bilion dolarów na rok.

Agricultural industry is the largest industry in the state of Georgia, earning 1.1 billion dollars a year.

W Gerogii, nielegany i legalny imigranci często pracowali w polu, bo Amerykanie (biali i czarni) są zbyt leniwy i oni nie chcą pracować zbyt ciężko.

In Georgia, illegal and legal immigrants often work in the fields, because Americans (white and black) are too lazy and they don’t want to work that hard.

Mimo tego, w maju 2011 bezrobocie w Georgii było 10%.

Despite this, in May 2011 unemployment in Georgia was 10%.

Przed prawa antyimigracynego, pracownicy często odchodzili z Meksyku.

Before the anti-immigration law, workers often came from Mexico.

Imigranci z Meksyku są tanie siły robocze i Amerykanie są uzależnieni od tanie jedzenie.

Immigrants from Mexico are cheap labor and Americans are addicted to cheap food.

Zmniejszył dochody rolników rok temu, bo owoce zgnił na polach.

Incomes of farmers decreased last year because fruit rotted in the fields.

W Georgii zbiory cebuli będzie w marcu.

In Georgia the onion harvest will be in March.

Gdzie są pracownicy?

Where are the workers?

Konkluduąc....

In conclusion

Po pierwszy. Ameryka to kraj możliwości.

First: America is a country of possibilities.

Po drugi. Jeśli Ameryka chce tanie jedzenie, proszę napływ tanie imigrantów.

Second: If America wants cheap food, please increase numbers of cheap immigrants.

Po trzeci. Argument, że imigranci zabierają prace Amerykanom to głupy.

Było 10 procent bezrobocie w Georgii rok temu.

Third:

The argument that immigrants take jobs from Americans is stupid.

There was 10 percent unemployment in Georgia last year.
